India launched a sharp diplomatic attack on Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing Islamabad of having a “long-tainted record of genocidal acts” while raising concerns over civilian casualties caused by Pakistani military operations in Afghanistan. The remarks were delivered by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, during the UNSC Open Debate on the Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict.

India alleged that cross-border violence linked to Pakistani forces resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths and injuries in Afghanistan during the first months of 2026. Citing data from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the Indian envoy claimed that most documented civilian casualty incidents were attributed to Pakistani security forces.

New Delhi also highlighted the reported airstrike on Kabul’s Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital during Ramadan, calling it a “barbaric” attack on civilians and medical infrastructure. India accused Pakistan of violating international humanitarian law and ignoring repeated global appeals to protect innocent lives in conflict zones.

In a strongly worded response, India said it was “ironic” for Pakistan to comment on India’s internal matters while facing allegations of violence against civilians within and beyond its borders. The statement came after Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue during the UNSC debate.

India further reiterated its concerns over cross-border terrorism and urged the international community to hold states supporting terror networks accountable. The remarks added another layer to escalating regional tensions involving Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India at the global diplomatic stage.
