The petition, lodged with the Kerala High Court on March 21, 2023, accuses Suresh Gopi and his election agent of using tactics prohibited by law to influence voters, leading to concerns about the legitimacy of the election process. The Representation of People’s Act of 1951 explicitly prohibits the use of certain methods to manipulate votes or influence voters.
Suresh Gopi, a prominent figure in the Kerala film industry and a two-time Member of Parliament, has been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His candidacy in the upcoming Thrissur election has sparked controversy, with local residents expressing concerns about the impact of his involvement in electoral politics.
