In a bid to promote the use of piped natural gas (PNG) and reduce the country’s reliance on imported liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the government has announced that households with access to PNG but still using LPG cylinders will face a supply cut within three months. This move aims to encourage the adoption of PNG, which is considered a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to LPG.
Exceptions will be made for households where PNG connections are technically infeasible, ensuring that these consumers continue to have access to a reliable source of energy. City gas distribution companies will be responsible for identifying and notifying eligible consumers who will be affected by the supply cut.
To facilitate a seamless transition, authorities have been instructed to grant necessary pipeline permissions within specified deadlines, streamlining the process and minimizing disruptions to households and businesses. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance energy efficiency, reduce the country’s carbon footprint, and promote the use of cleaner fuels. As the government continues to push for the adoption of PNG, consumers can expect a more sustainable and efficient energy supply system in the future.
